Damyean Dotson has recently emerged to grab the backup shooting guard slot from Wayne Ellington and Allonzo Trier.

It wasn’t long ago that Dotson was a complete afterthought in a crowded backcourt after returning from offseason shoulder surgery to repair a torn labrum. He played just three minutes in the first four games but has been a regular in the last five, earning David Fizdale’s trust with his hustle and defense. His percentages have always suffered though and he doesn’t offer much else so he can only be seen as a scoring specialist in deeper formats.

  • Wayne Ellington
    SG, New York Knicks

Wayne Ellington chipped in three points and a block in 13 minutes on Wednesday.

It's not much but all four of Ellington's shots came from deep and he'll hold specialist value when he's in the rotation. Tonight he played ahead of Damyean Dotson, a 40-game starter from last season, who did not see the floor at all.

    SG, New York Knicks

Damyean Dotson made his return to action on Friday from offseason shoulder surgery and logged 10 minutes, contributing three points, one assist, one 3-pointer and one steal.

Dotson has a lot more competition for minutes in 2019-20 compared to his bright performance as a pick-up streamer in 2018-19. He's also under the thumb of the evil coach David Fizdale roster-shuffling chaos machine. so it's best to leave him undrafted in most leagues, applying a wait-and-see approach for now.

Damyean Dotson (right shoulder surgery), Kadeem Allen (foot) and Allonzo Trier (neck) are all available for Wednesday's preseason game against the Hawks.

It is good to see guys getting healthy in time for the start of the regular season. Although all three of these players had roles for the Knicks at times last season, it is very difficult to project any of them as having value outside of very deep leagues this upcoming season.

Damyean Dotson (right shoulder surgery) practiced on Tuesday and is probable for Wednesday's game against the Hawks.

Dotson averaged 10.7 points as a reserve for the Knicks last year and will likely be in a similar role. He is a deep-league option for points, but he will face a lot more competition for minutes this year as the Knicks brought in Wayne Ellington and R.J. Barrett this offseason.

Damyean Dotson, who is recovering from right shoulder surgery, was able to go through a full practice on Sunday.

Though Dotson isn't expected to play in the preseason, it's anticipated that he'll be ready for the regular season. Consider him a deep-league option for points and threes, and one wonders if his return to practice means he'll be able to compete for the starting shooting guard spot.

Damyean Dotson (right shoulder) has been ruled out of Friday's game.

Dotson underwent shoulder surgery in May and is considered unlikely to play at all in the preseason. He is still expected to be ready for opening night, however, so consider this a reminder for deep-league managers that want to get in on New York's crowded rotation.

Damyean Dotson, who had right shoulder surgery, is unlikely to play in the preseason for the Knicks but should be available for the regular season.

Dotson scored 10.7 points per game as a reserve last season while making 36.8 percent of his three-pointers. The Knicks added Wayne Ellington in the offseason who could cut into Dotson's reserve minutes.

Damyean Dotson underwent surgery to repair a torn labrum in his right shoulder but is expected to be ready for training camp.

Dotson was a solid contributor for the Knicks this past season, setting numerous career-highs and rising to a starting role. If he carries the same importance next year it will mean that the Knicks whiffed on their free agency plans, but Dotson is a name worth knowing in deep-league drafts depending on how the summer shakes out.

Damyean Dotson started and played 29 minutes in Wednesday's 89-115 loss to the Pistons, finishing with five points, 3 assists and two rebounds.

Dotson showed improvement in his second season, putting up career-highs across the board with averaging about 11 points, four rebounds and two assists per game, clocking him in around top-200 value on the season. With a huge offseason hanging over the head of the franchise, it’s hard to determine what role, if any, Dotson will have on next year’s team.

Damyean Dotson had only six points in 32 minutes on Sunday, going 2-of-8 from the field.

Dotson did manage five rebounds and three assists but fantasy owners won't have much use for him if he isn't scoring. He's locked into a big role but is still somewhat inconsistent, so he's not necessarily a must-hold player.

Damyean Dotson started on Monday and scored 18 points on 6-of-8 shooting while adding six rebounds, six assists, a steal and six triples.

Dotson hit 6-for-7 from deep and logged 41 miutes since Allonzo Trier (left calf) sat this one out. Dotson needed hot shooting and a lack of wing depth to provide minimal value so you can stay away here.

  • Allonzo Trier
    G, New York Knicks

Allonzo Trier (left calf strain) will not play on Saturday vs. the Heat.

That leaves Damyean Dotson and Mario Hezonja as the principle guys to man the wing for the Knicks.
