Despite an NBA worst 65 losses, coach David Fizdale is optimistic about the Knicks’ future.

Fizdale has gone into the offseason with a heavy heart and continues to work with his players even as some are approaching free agency. Fizdale said the front team remained brutally honest from the beginning that this would be a long year, and is taking it in stride. With the Knicks expected to be players in the upcoming free agency and the highest lottery odds, there would seem to be much more optimism than in recent seasons.

The Knicks have discussed bringing in a veteran leader to help balance out their young roster.

The Knicks are thin at center, especially if they don't play Joakim Noah. Luke Kornet is currently listed as the backup behind Enes Kanter. Greg Monroe would be a solid backup big man to target in free agency if the Knicks decide to go that direction

The Knicks have announced the hiring of Keith Smart, Jud Buechler, Pat Sullivan and Royal Ivey to be a part of David Fizdale's coaching staff.

All four have multiple years of experience as assistants in the NBA. Former head coach Jeff Hornacek's assistant coach Howard Eisley is still with the organization, but it remains uncertain if he will keep his role of an assistant coach.

Coach David Fizdale says he wants to establish a “fast”, “disruptive”, “versatile”, “loud”, “top-ranked defense” that creates transition opportunities for the Knicks.

In half-court offense, Fizdale wants play “a really free-flowing, open-space offense that has everybody getting involved.” This could be seen as great news from a fantasy perspective. It appears that the Knicks may look to push the pace which will open up opportunities for some nice stat lines. In New York it is all about Porzingis but guys like Frank Ntilikina, Courtney Lee and Tim Hardaway Jr. will all benefit from pushing the pace a little bit.

David Fizdale is gaining "serious traction" in the Knicks' search for a new head coach, according to Shams Charania of Yahoo Sports.

Fizdale is one of the top coaches on the market, so it's no surprise to see the Knicks show significant interest in him. The former Memphis Grizzlies head coach should have a new gig come next season, and it's looking like the Knicks are the favorites to land him.

The Hawks are interviewing David Fizdale for their vacant head coaching position.

Fizdale was surprisingly dismissed in Memphis for reasons that seem to deal more with backstage politics than anything else. He drew solid reviews in his brief run at the helm, and while it's not a direct A-to-B correlation considering everything else that went on the Grizzlies did plummet after he was let go. Whether Fizdale wants to take over a full rebuild team remains to be seen, as he's likely to have some options given the current vacancies around the league.

David Fizdale and Ettore Messina will interview for the Hornets' head coaching position.

Fizdale and Messina have been connected to other vacancies already, but perhaps the allure of joining a team that already has a star point guard in place will make Charlotte a more attractive destination than other potential landing spots. Messina will coach the Spurs in Game 4 on Sunday as Gregg Popovich remains away from the team while Fizdale seems like a lock to get back in the game after his surprising dismissal from the Grizzlies earlier this season.

Former Knicks’ point guard Mark Jackson met with the team on Wednesday while it’s believed that David Fizdale will be the next coach to interview for their opening.

The Knicks launched their interview process by sitting down with Jerry Stackhouse first while David Blatt is also being considered for the the job. It’s anyone’s guess which direction the Knicks will go to as president Steve Mills and general manager Scott Perry said that they want someone experienced, open-minded and focused on defense, pretty much the perfect package. Jay Wright’s name hasn’t come up yet but he could be the dark horse in one of the most intriguing openings around the league.

Mark Medina of The Mercury News reported that former Grizzlies coach David Fizdale will interview with the New York Knicks and Phoenix Suns next week.

Both need help, and Fizdale's tenure with the Heat and Grizzlies means he'll likely get a shot somewhere. It was reported earlier that Hawks coach Mike Budenholzer has also received permission to interview with the Suns for their still-vacant head coaching position.
