Frank Vogel will be the next head coach of the Lakers, per Adrian Wojnarowski.

Vogel spent last season out of the NBA after being fired by the Magic following the 2017-18 season. He is best remembered for his work in Indiana and will now step into a media circus with LeBron's Lakers. Vogel got the nod after the team was spurned by Ty Lue, who was unhappy with their contract offer. Vogel's deal is reportedly for three seasons. Interestingly, Jason Kidd is expected to hold a significant role as an assistant on Vogel's staff. Surely it'll be a drama-free tenure.

Woj is reporting that Frank Vogel made a strong impression on the Lakers and they are expected to talk again.

It seems like Vogel is currently the favorite to land the head coaching gig with Lionel Hollins, Mike Woodson and Jason Kidd all still in the mix. The experienced coach had a good run with the Pacers, making the playoffs four of the five seasons he was there. This past season, his third with the Magic, they improved by 17 wins from the prior season and reached the playoffs for the first time since 2012.

The Lakers will reportedly interview Frank Vogel on Thursday for the team’s head coaching vacancy.

After whiffing on Monty Williams and coming to an impasse with Tyronn Lue, the Lakers are back to the beginning with their head coaching search. It was reported a few days back that Vogel was likely to join the Lakers’ staff if Lue was the head man, but it seems like there are some in the Lakers’ brass who liked Vogel as an alternative as well. This hire looks like it might take a little while now that the Lakers’ top choices are off the board.

It is believed that Frank Vogel may join the Lakers staff as a lead assistant if Tyronn Lue, who is reportedly in talks, becomes the next head coach of the Lakers.

A former head coach of the Pacers and Magic, Vogel has plenty of experience in the coaching circle and would provide valuable knowledge on the bench for Lue.

The Magic have fired head coach Frank Vogel according to Adrian Wojnarowski.

The Magic front office isn't exactly known for doing smart things and though they didn't capitalize on a fast start, injuries pretty much decimated them and then they traded away the last regime's struggling lottery pick in Elfrid Payton. The early names being put out there by the powers that be are Raptors assistant Nick Nurse, Spurs assistants James Borrego and Ime Udoka, Blazers assistant David Vanterpool, Jazz assistant Igor Kokoskov and Raptors 905 G League coach Jerry Stackhouse.

  • Jonathan Isaac
    SF/PF, Orlando Magic

Magic coach Frank Vogel said after practice that Jonathan Isaac is on track to make his return Friday vs. the Pistons.

The Magic have some figuring out to do with their rotation as they have a point guard shortage and forward surplus. They did run some no-point guard lineups on Saturday that were successful and would be an effective way to welcome Isaac back into the rotation. With Aaron Gordon starting and Mario Hezonja to play “a lot of minutes.” according to Vogel, Isaac may be worked back slowly. Vogel also mentioned that Isaac may be the team’s best perimeter defender and he is excited to see what he can bring. Isaac will probably retain a minute restriction to start off but he is worth a look for his upside and defensive ability.

Jonathan Isaac is hoping to return from his ankle injury on Friday against Detroit.

Isac has not played since December 26 and has only played in 15 games this season. The medical staff originally said Isaac could play on Wednesday, but then wanted him to get an extra day off before returning. Magic coach Frank Vogel had some good things to say about Isaac including that he believes Isaac may be the team’s best perimeter defender. Isaac posted promising per minute stats to start off the season and can be added as a stash if you need help defensively.

  • Mario Hezonja
    SF/PF, Orlando Magic

Magic coach Frank Vogel said today that he intends to bring Mario Hezonja off of the bench but wants to keep playing him a lot of minutes so he stays in a good rhythm.

With both Aaron Gordon and Nikola Vucevic returning to the starting lineup tonight, it is very encouraging for Hezonja owners that Vogel wants to make sure Hezonja gets his playing time and stays in rhythm. Hezonja has been returning fourth round value over the last month and second round value over the last two weeks. There is an obvious expected falloff with both Gordon and Vucevic back, but owners should not worry too much. As a guy that helps almost across the board, Hezonja should be just fine to continue and produce mid round value if Vogel stays true to his word.
