Hassan Whiteside played 16 minutes on Sunday, coming away with five points and five rebounds.

Not good. Jusuf Nurkic has looked fantastic and the drop off from him to Whiteside is steep — mainly because he can make basic reads on offense and play competent team defense. As a result, Whiteside's been relegated to clear bench duty, averaging 16.5 mpg through two Orlando games so far. We knew his volume-based game would suffer in the restart, but this is pretty much the worst-case scenario. Hopefully you didn't spend a middle-round pick on him in resumption leagues. If he's not blocking shots in his short stints on the court, Whiteside is a total zero in fantasy.

Hassan Whiteside played less than 20 minutes off the Blazers' bench on Friday and was limited to putting up just seven points (3-of-5 shooting), four rebounds and two blocks.

Ouch. The move to the bench didn't do Whiteside's value any favors. He hasn't been this bad in quite some time. The problem is that Jusuf Nurkic is now healthy and actually played very well as the starting C, so the seeding-games outlook for Whiteside's value looks very grim.

Hassan Whiteside will be coming off the bench when the Blazers face the Grizzlies on Friday.

Zach Collins and Jusuf Nurkić are both in the starting lineup, and Carmelo Anthony is sliding down to small forward to make room for the changes the Blazers are about to introduce to the roster. Whiteside had a dream season until this point and is bound to take a major hit in value coming off the pine. He'll remain a strong source of blocks, but he's going to take a significant cut from the 31.3 minutes he had been averaging.

The Blazers will go with a starting lineup of Damian Lillard, CJ McCollum, Carmelo Anthony, Zach Collins and Jusuf Nurkić on Friday vs. the Grizzlies.

It was unclear whether the Blazers would have Hassan Whiteside or Collins in the starting lineup for the resumption season. Collins will earn the starting nod in the first game, a game that is very important for the Blazers to win as they are looking to overtake the Grizzlies for the eighth and final seed in the West. Collins has yet to prove consistent value in standard leagues so it will be interesting for fantasy GMs to see how he performs in the resumption season ahead of the 2020-21 fantasy season. Whiteside's value will see a significant drop-off from the abbreviated first portion of the season with Nurk and Collins in the fold.

Hassan Whiteside (Achilles) made his bubble debut for Sunday's contest against the Raptors, during which he produced six points, five rebounds, two blocks and two turnovers over 18 minutes.

The Blazers rolled out both Whiteside and Jusuf Nurkic in the starting lineup, and Nurkic (17 PTS, 13 REBS, 5 ASTS) was clearly the more prominent of the two over his 27 minutes. Whiteside is still going to be a top shot blocker no matter how fast of a rise we see from Nurkic, but his days of easy double-doubles are going to be in the rearview mirror. With Zach Collins also healthy, the Blazers have too many options to continue giving Whiteside over 31 minutes per game. He'll have a steady shot blocking floor alongside a high level of risk if you're still projecting him as an early-round option.

Hassan Whiteside (Achilles) and Jusuf Nurkic will both be in the starting lineup for Sunday's scrimmage against the Raptors.

Whiteside is returning from a few days off due to an Achilles issue and will be limited to 20 minutes, but we're about to get our first look at Portland's jumbo lineup. It will be very light on spacing but Terry Stotts is going to try and get both of his centers as much run as possible. If this lineup works it'll be a lifeline for Whiteside's fantasy prospects during the Orlando session, so we'll be watching closely.

Hassan Whiteside (Achilles) was able to participate in Saturday's practice, which coach Terry Stotts described as "light."

It's a positive update on Whiteside, though it remains to be seen if he'll play in Sunday's tilt against the Raptors. With Jusuf Nurkic back at full strength, it'll be tough for Whiteside to maintain the lion's share of minutes if he can't participate in any of Portland's warm-up games. His uncertain role makes him a risky pick in resumption leagues, though Whiteside's block numbers will give him a solid floor.

Hassan Whiteside (Achilles) will sit out of the Blazers’ first scirmmage vs. the Pacers on Thursday.

This is likely a precautionary measure by the Blazers in the hopes that they will have the league leader in blocks by the time the games count for real. Fans of the Blazers will get their first look at Jusuf Nurkić and Zach Collins as both bigs have returned from injury. Continue to monitor Whiteside’s status as he will have another opportunity to take part in the team’s next scrimmage on Sunday vs. the Raptors. Their first regular season game will be on July 31.

Hassan Whiteside returned to fantasy glory in 2019-20 as he ranked 15/8 in per-game and 7/5 in total value in 8/9-cat leagues.

Three years removed from his first-round fantasy season in 2015-16, Whiteside found the perfect home in Portland where he played 31.3 minutes per game and returned to fantasy dominance with averages of 16.3 points, 14.2 rebounds and a 61.8 field goal percentage while leading the league in blocks (3.1) for the second time in his career. This turnaround may be short-lived however, since Whiteside may not even be a starter when the Blazers are at full health with Jusuf Nurkic and Zach Collins coming back. It also did not help his cause that the Blazers were eight games under .500 with Whiteside as their starting center, the season after they finished as the third seed in the Western Conference.

  • Jusuf Nurkic
    C, Portland Trail Blazers

In a conference call with Portland media, Terry Stotts revealed that Jusuf Nurkic and Zach Collins are likely to return to their starting jobs and won't be under minutes restrictions when the NBA resumes.

It should be a huge defensive lift for a Blazers squad that gave up points like crazy, though this will throw a wrench into plans for DFS players. Stotts mentioned that he's considered starting Nurkic next to current starter Hassan Whiteside, though that fit would likely only be tenable in certain matchups. This, plus news of Trevor Ariza's absence during the restart, also has big effects on the wing rotation, where it sounds like Carmelo Anthony and Gary Trent Jr. are competing to start with Nassir Little and Mario Hezonja also in the mix off the bench. This is a big blow to Hassan Whiteside's fantasy appeal — a top-15 player in 31.3 mpg this year– as his minutes should sink into the mid twenties. Anyone participating in a short league that covers the restart may want to view Whiteside as more of a middle-round, blocks specialist type, though this all obviously hinges on how Nurkic and Collins look when games begin.

Hassan Whiteside had a field day on Tuesday, bullying the Suns with his 16 points on 8-of-12 shooting, plus 14 rebounds, one assist, one steal and two blocks in 37 minutes.

Whiteside took advantage of the Suns' thin frontcourt and asserted his dominance in the paint. His top-15 value this season was one of the more pleasant surprises and lucky owners get to ride all the way into the fantasy playoffs.

Hassan Whiteside double-doubled vs. the Kings on Saturday, scoring 19 points on 8-of-11 shooting with 11 rebounds and three blocks in 30 minutes.

Whiteside has double-doubled in 12 straight games and is a first-round player during that stretch. He's a top-10 player on the season and should continue posting top-15 value moving forward. Jusuf Nurkic is set to return on March 15, but he will be eased in slowly and won't impact Whiteside enough to make a difference.

Hassan Whiteside cruised to 23 points (11-for-14 shooting), 20 rebounds, four blocks and one triple in Friday's 117-127 loss to the Suns.

Nobody has been able to keep Whiteside from posting elite rebounding and block numbers all season and tonight was no different. This could very well end up being Whiteside's best fantasy season of his career and he shows no signs of slowing down as we head into the fantasy playoffs.

Hassan Whiteside's double-double carried the Trail Blazers to a 105-125 win over the Wizards on Wednesday, finishing the contest with 24 points (10-14 FG), 16 rebounds, two assists and four blocks.

Dial the clocks back to 2016, because Whiteside looks like a safe bet to finish the season as a top-10 player. He has been able to provide elite blocks and rebounds consistently, and has been one of the more durable big men in the league this year. You can keep riding Whiteside until the wheels come off.

Hassan Whiteside double-doubled with 21 points (9-of-14 from the field), 13 rebounds and three blocks in a 129-117 loss to the Hawks on Saturday.

Whiteside has been fed plenty of minutes this season with the Blazers' lack of depth in the front court. It doesn't look like that will change soon with Jusuf Nurkic and Zach Collins still without firm timelines. Whiteside has been a top-10/15 player in 9/8-cat leagues this season and owners can expect him to stay in that range ROS.
