    Jaxson Hayes: Analyzing Rebounding

Jaxson Hayes is undoubtedly one of the most positive storylines of the Pelicans season.  Because of the amount of time Derrick Favors and others have had to miss, Hayes has gotten considerably more playing time…

  • Derrick Favors
    PF, New Orleans Pelicans

Minutes-capped Derrick Favors got it done in his 20 minutes on Tuesday, putting up seven points on 3-of-7 FGs, nine rebounds, three assists and three blocks.

Favors is still rounding into form after missing nearly a month of action. He should have a good shot to get back to top-100 value once his minutes cap is removed. Meanwhile, Jaxson Hayes continued to benefit from the extra minutes, producing 13 points, eight boards, one dime, two blocks and a three in 29 minutes in this one.

  • Jaxson Hayes
    PF-C, New Orleans Pelicans

Jaxson Hayes logged 29 minutes in Sunday's home loss, producing 10 points, seven rebounds and a block.

Hayes still took the lion's share of minutes at center, but that figures to flip next week when Derrick Favors gets his conditioning back. The rookie is a fun player to watch and has some nice upside but he can be considered just a deep-league player going forward. Jahlil Okafor was a DNP and can be dropped just about everywhere.

Derrick Favors (personal) will be a game-time decision vs. the 76ers on Friday.

Coach Alvin Gentry said that they'll see how he's feeling after warmups and make the decision then. He's still making his way back after the loss of his mother so the Pels will likely give him all the time that he needs. If he doesn't end up suiting up then Jaxson Hayes and Jahlil Okafor will continue to see increased minutes.

Derrick Favors is questionable to face the Sixers on Friday for personal reasons.

Favors is in line for a significant role when he returns to the floor. If he sits out another game, Jaxson Hayes and Jahlil Okafor will continue to see more time on the floor.

Jaxson Hayes recorded 12 points on 4-of-5 shooting with five rebounds, one assist, two steals and two blocks in a loss to the Bucks on Wednesday.

Hayes got the better of Jahlil Okafor (two points, six assists, three rebounds, 20 minutes) once again. Hayes is looking like the big man to own moving forward, especially with rumors floating that Derrick Favors (personal) could be on the trade block.

Derrick Favors will miss Wednesday's game for personal reasons.

Favors has rejoined the team but is still working his way back after his mother passed away. Jaxson Hayes has stepped up in his absence with Jahlil Okafor also receiving more minutes.

Jaxson Hayes had a solid outing vs. a challenging matchup against the Pistons on Monday, delivering 13 points, one assist, two steals and one block in 21 minutes.

Hayes outplayed Jahlil Okafor, who had a weak performance with nine points, six rebounds, one assist and one block in 22 minutes as a starter. Hayes is still the preferred big to own while Derrick Favors (personal) remains away from the team.

  • Lonzo Ball
    PG, New Orleans Pelicans

The Pelicans have switched up their starting lineup for Monday's game, sending Lonzo Ball and Jaxson Hayes to the bench in favor of Kenrich Williams and Jaxson Hayes.

This looks like a matchup decision, with Williams probably drawing some of the Blake Griffin assignment and Okafor better suited to crash and bang with Andre Drummond. The two replacements have streaming appeal tonight but we wouldn't change any valuations here.

    PF, New Orleans Pelicans

Derrick Favors (personal) is questionable for Monday's game versus the Pistons.

Favors has been away from the team ever since the death of his mother and the team is not rushing him back until he is ready to return. Jaxson Hayes will continue to benefit if Favors needs another night off.

Derrick Favors (personal) will remain out on Saturday when the Pelicans face the Mavs.

With Favors out Jaxson Hayes will have a bigger role to play for the Pelicans, and Kenrich Williams will have some potential to be productive as well.

    PF-C, New Orleans Pelicans

Jaxson Hayes scored 17 points and blocked five shots in 33 minutes of action on Thursday night.

The five blocks were huge for this line from Hayes, who is flashing his potential in the absence of Derrick Favors. We'll see how long Favors is away from the team.

Derrick Favors (personal) will not play on Thursday vs. the Suns.

Favors is dealing with something much bigger than basketball right now. While he remains out, Jaxson Hayes, Nicolò Melli and Kenrich Williams could see more opportunity.

Derrick Favors is officially questionable to face the Suns on Thursday as he is dealing with personal issues.

Favors is currently dealing with something that is much bigger than basketball. He will have a great opportunity once he is able to return to the court. Jaxson Hayes and Nicolò Melli will continue to see additional minutes if Favors misses another game.

Derrick Favors has not yet rejoined the Pelicans following the passing of his mother.

Nobody can blame Favors for taking his time. While nothing has been decided, it seems unlikely that he will participate in Thursday's contest. Jahlil Okafor and Jaxson Hayes should maintain their roles in that case.
