    PG, Philadelphia Sixers

Marial Shayok, a two-way player for the Sixers, was named the NBA G League player of the week after averaging 35.0 points, 9.3 rebounds and 3.7 assists in three games for the Delaware Blue Coats.

Shayok averaged 18.7 points last season at Iowa State and garnered All-Big 12 honors after playing his first three seasons at Virginia. The Sixers selected him in the second round of the NBA draft with the No. 54 overall pick and he should be monitored in deep dynasty leagues as he appears to be a natural-born scorer.

Norvel Pelle (ankle) and Marial Shayok (left knee soreness) will play on Wednesday.

Both players returned to practice yesterday after sustaining minor injuries through the course of Summer League. Pelle and Shayok have been two of Philly's best players in Vegas so far, and are the team's two two-way contract holders.

Marial Shayok (left knee soreness) will miss Monday's Summer League game.

It's expected to be a minor issue, and Shayok has performed well in Summer League so far so the Sixers are just being extra cautious with their new two-way player.

The Sixers have signed Marial Shayok to a two-way contract.

Shayok was a relatively surprising selection at 54th overall, but the 24-year-old (for three more weeks, anyway) has performed well in Summer League action so far. The Sixers like his shooting ability and will look to round out his game in the G-League while taking advantage of his floor-spacing when he's up with the big club.

  • Marial Shayok
    PG, Philadelphia Sixers

Marial Shayok scored a team-high 19 points in Friday's Summer League win, going 7-of-13 from the field with three triples.

Mayok is set to turn 25 this month and was one of the oldest players in this season's draft pool, though his reliable 3-point stroke means he will always have a pathway to a role. More performances like this would help his case but we're not expecting to see Shayok with the Sixers this season.

    G/F, Philadelphia Sixers

The Sixers have chosen Canadian Marial Shayok out of Iowa State with the 54th pick in the draft.

Shayok is the sixth Canadian to be drafted tonight, marking a new record for the most draftees ever from a non-US nation. He is one of the older players available and will turn 25 in July, so there isn't much upside left, but Shayok is a career 38-percent shooter from distance. His lack of explosion and athleticism are standout weaknesses, but his shooting ability will give him a chance and Shayok is not a player who careens out of his lane all that often. He figures to play a highly specific role for Philly.
