Marreese Speights will work out for the Los Angeles Lakers on Friday according to Alex Kennedy of Hoopshype.

Speights spent last year playing in China and will attempt his NBA comeback with the Lakers. who are in desperate need of an additional center. He is among three centers the Lakers are looking into, the others being Dwight Howard and Joakim Noah. Of those three, Speights unquestionably has the best floor spacing ability, which would be his strongest bet to eke out those other two for the job.

Marreese Speights is close to a deal with the CBA's Guangzhou Long Lions.

It had been reported earlier in the offseason that Speights was weighing offers from China, and a potentially tough market for lower-tier free agents probably made his decision easier. Mo Buckets should put up huge numbers overseas and try for a comeback next summer when there's more cash to spend. Teams will have time for a big who can hit threes, even if Speights is an end-of-bench player.

As of a report on Monday, Marreese Speights is approaching a contract with the Guangzhou Long Lions.

This could spell the end of a decent NBA career for Speights in a surprising fashion. At just 30 years old entering free agency again, a team looking for some scoring and veteran leadership off the bench would almost certainly have come knocking. Even still, a fantasy impact was unlikely in the NBA even if he did stick around.

  • Marreese Speights
    PF/C, Orlando Magic

Marreese Speights logged three minutes in the season finale on Wednesday, going scoreless with a rebound and a steal.

Speights was buried on the depth chart even when the tank was full steam ahead. He averaged 1.7 threes in only 13.0 mpg but that's it for fantasy owners. Mo Buckets landed just inside the top-300 as a pure specialist.

  • Bismack Biyombo
    C, Orlando Magic

Bismack Biyombo outscored every starter with 13 points and added six rebounds, while Marreese Speights scored 10 points but forgot to do anything else in Thursday’s blowout loss to the Sixers.

Biyombo and Speights both have almost no appeal in a league of standard depth especially with Nikola Vucevic eating up a majority of the big man minutes. Hopefully they aren’t integral parts to a fantasy title run.

  • Mario Hezonja
    SF/PF, Orlando Magic

Mario Hezonja played 28 minutes in Tuesday’s laugher and wound up with four points, six rebounds, three assists and a steal.

None of the Magic were good tonight. The less said about this game the better, though it is disappointing that the Magic only had two double-figure scorers considering this game was almost purely garbage time. D.J. Augustin went for 9 & 6 with a steal and a triple in 25 minutes while Marreese Speights picked up six points, two triples, four boards and a pair of blocks, but that’s about it as far as possible positives go.

  • Marreese Speights
    PF,C, Orlando Magic

Marreese Speights (personal) will be back with the team for Wednesday’s game against the Raptors.

Speights missed the last three games for personal reasons and he will return, but to a more crowded rotation. The veteran will struggle to see the 13 minutes per game he averaged this season and can be left on wires.

    C, Orlando Magic

Marreese Speights will miss the next two games for the Magic to attend to a personal matter.

Speights saw an increase in minutes and value while Aaron Gordon and Nikola Vucevic were sidelined for the Magic, but now that their back, he’s unlikely to get more than reserve minutes going forward. Bismack Biyombo will be Vucevic’s primary backup with Speights out. Neither Biyombo or Speights are worth owning while Vucevic is healthy.
