Omari Spellman (shin soreness) and Justin Hamilton (shoulder) will be unavailable for the start of training camp.
Spellman’s injury is being described as a soft-tissue injury and is expected to miss seven to ten days. Spellman has the opportunity to open the season in the rotation if he could get healthy enough before the start of the season, but he is still competing with John Collins, Dewayne Dedmon and Miles Plumlee for minutes. Unfortunately for Hamilton he has torn rotator cuff and has opted to not have surgery. Neither player should be a primary focus in upcoming standard drafts.

The Hawks closed out the first round by selecting Omari Spellman with the 30th pick of the 2018 NBA Draft.
Spellman is a stretch four with a versatile offensive game. The Hawks are clearly targeting good shooters to follow the trend of the modern NBA. While Spellman does offer some upside offensively, he is a bit small and could get bullied by bigger power forwards and centers. If he's a regular rotational piece, he will likely struggle to find a consistent role behind John Collins and Taurean Prince, and would struggle to compete physically at the center position.
