The NBA has removed Omer Asik from Chicago’s salary books because of his career-ending injury/illness.
Asik missed eight months because of Crohn’s disease back in the 2016-17 season and has only played in 14 games since, missing all of last season. He was ruled out indefinitely because of inflammatory arthritis last summer and his NBA days are officially over. The Bulls add about $3 million in cap space as a result.

The Bulls have requested that Omer Asik's contract not count towards the team salary as he suffered a career-ending injury/illness.
Asik, who was waived by the Bulls last October, has been forced to retire. Asik was able to play in the league for eight seasons. With this move, the Bulls would free up an additional $3 million in cap room that they could use to help bolster their young roster heading into the 2019-2020 season.

Omer Asik will be waived by the Bulls according to Darnell Mayberry of The Athletic.
Asik's contract is guaranteed for this year and next year's deal has a small $3 million guarantee, so the Bulls are getting rid of a potential trade chip but thems are the breaks. It's interesting that they're making this type of giveaway to acquire a player at a position they're relatively stocked in, but waiting for a market to develop for Asik, if it develops, isn't necessarily the best route, either.

Omer Asik is out indefinitley with inflammatory arthritis with no time table on a return.
Asik has played only 14.4 minutes per game since signing a big contract a few years back but has also missed a lot of time for health reasons. He was traded to the Bulls last year and appeared in 18 games for them at 10.1 minutes per. He is on the books for $11.3 million this year but is only guaranteed $3 million next season. He has not been fantasy relevant for a while and is a likely candidate to be waived.

Omer Asik will be active for the Bulls on Saturday night as Robin Lopez will not play.
Well there's a blast from the past. Asik is unlikely to play much and simply can't be endorsed as a fantasy option here.
