Lakers owner Jeanie Buss said she has, “100 percent confidence in (GM) Rob Pelinka.”
For all the bashing the Lakers franchise has taken in the media, and all the stories about dysfunction and deceit in the front office, the team is right where they want to be and right where they promised to be last summer. The Lakers have LeBron James, Anthony Davis, and cap room to bring in another max player or depth to build around the two superstars. For everything negative that has been said and reported on the franchise, if the team can deliver on the court next season everything about the team’s perception will change in an instant. Free agency opens next week and the Lakers hold the keys to the offseason.

Adrian Wojnarowski is reporting that the Lakers are aggressively pursuing the purchase of second-round picks in Thursday’s draft.
In addition to trying to unload additional bench players, the Lakers would like to acquire a few second-round picks to round out their roster with minimum salary players. If the Lakers can get any late picks, it will give the team even more breathing room in free agency. The Lakers’ master plan after signing LeBron James last offseason is starting to shift into high gear.

The Lakers are discussing signing potential role-player free agents in the $10 million plus range.
The Lakers made the splash of the offseason by finally getting their hands on Anthony Davis, and now it is time to figure out who will be filling out the roster after they get an expected 3rd max player. They’ll surely be looking at players who would take a 1-year deal. Some names mentioned in the link were Marcus Morris, J.J. Redick, Patrick Beverley, Seth Curry and Danny Green. Depending on who the third star is, any of these names make sense. We’d expect J.J. Redick’s floor spacing and Patrick Beverley’s tenacity to get the first calls from the Laker front office.

According to ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne, the Lakers will not hire a President of Basketball Operations to replace Magic Johnson and GM Rob Pelinka will continue in his role.
Pelinka previously reported to Johnson but will now report directly to ownership. It’s been a tumultuous off-season for the Lakers considering the departure of Johnson and the issues surrounding their search for a new head coach. Luckily, the team has the fourth pick in this year’s draft and Pelinka will try to get an impactful veteran to play alongside LeBron James.
