The Raptors opened a two-way contract on Wednesday by waiving guard Shamorie Ponds.

    PG, Toronto Raptors

Shamorie Ponds made his NBA debut in Wednesday's laugher against the Knicks, scoring four points and adding two assists in six minutes.

The Raptors were in cruise control for most of the night so Ponds was able to get in the mix. Even with the Raptors shorthanded he won't be a factor on most nights, but perhaps Ponds can be the team's latest in a long line of UDFA success stories in time.

  • Shamorie Ponds
    PG, Toronto Raptors

Shamorie Ponds will join the Raptors on two-way deal after being waived by the Rockets on Saturday.

The rookie out of St. John's will get a shot with the Raptors, or more likely their G League affiliate. In fantasy, there's no need to keep an eye on Ponds unless the Raptors find themselves in tear-down mode. He had some amazing college numbers, so there's a chance he finds success in the league.

  • Ray Spalding
    PF, Houston Rockets

Rockets have waived Ray Spalding, Matur Maker and Shamorie Ponds.

Several NBA teams have shown interest in Spalding so he may end up on a roster. Otherwise, Spalding, Maker and Ponds will likely see time in the G League. None are worth drafting in standard leagues.

    PG, Houston Rockets

Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN is reporting that the Rockets have converted training camp deals for rookie guards Shamorie Ponds and William McDowell-White into two-way deals.

Ponds went undrafted after posting 19.7 points, 4.1 rebounds, 5.1 assists, 2.6 steals and 2.0 triples in his last year at St. John’s. William McDowell-White meanwhile, played for the Baunach Young Pikes in Germany after a year at Fresno State. Both of them had an underwhelming summer league but the Rockets will try to develop them and they are likely to spend most of their time with the Rio Grande Valley Vipers of the G League.
