Thon Maker

Fantasy News

  • Thon Maker
    C, Detroit Pistons

Thon Maker's fourth season in the NBA went the same way as his prior campaigns, as his potential went untapped while averaging 12.9 mpg for the Pistons.

Maker's raw production is promising for fantasy purposes, as he is a rare center that brings blocks, 3-pointers, and a respectable steal rate to the table. Nonetheless, he has never seen more than 17 mpg and saw his minutes decline for the third season in a row. If Christian Wood finds his way out of Detroit in the offseason it stands to reason that Maker could carve out a larger role for himself, especially if Blake Griffin were to succumb to injuries as he did for the majority of this season. Maker would still have to prove himself versus the likes of John Henson and Sekou Doumbuoya, but Maker would be a popular sleeper in standard leagues if he received a true workload. In his current role, Maker was just a top-335/336 per-game player (8/9-cat).

Thon Maker started and scored 13 points on 5-of-9 shooting with two 3-pointers and one block in 17 minutes on Wednesday.

Maker got the start with John Henson (left ankle sprain) sitting out and was limited by foul trouble. He was able to still bring the blocks and threes in limited minutes.

  • John Henson
    PF, Detroit Pistons

As expected, John Henson will sit out of Wednesday's contest vs. the Sixers as he continues to deal with a sprained left ankle.

Head coach Dwane Casey told the media on Tuesday that he expects Henson to miss some time with his most recent injury. Henson has struggled to stay healthy throughout his career and has lost fantasy relevance this season with his most recent injury. Thon Maker and Sekou Doumbouya should continue to see more minutes while Henson is sidelined. Christian Wood will continue to be the stud in the Pistons' frontcourt moving forward.

Coach Dwane Casey said that John Henson (left ankle sprain) will "miss some time" after being forced to exit Sunday's loss to the Knicks early.

Henson has seen a steady role of late, but he becomes a cut candidate without a concrete timetable. In his absence, Thon Maker and Sekou Doumbouya should once again see added opportunities in the frontcourt.

Thon Maker put up three points with three steals and one block in 28 minutes in a loss to the Knicks on Sunday.

John Henson (ankle) exited the game early, so the door is wide open for Maker if his injury forces him to miss time. He could be worth streaming in 12-plus team formats if the minutes jump while Henson is out.

Thon Maker (right foot sprain) has been upgraded to available ahead of Wednesday’s contest vs. the Thunder.

Maker has seen his minutes decline over the last couple of weeks and can be left off standard league rosters. He could be worth a look in 18-team leagues.

Thon Maker (right ankle sprain) and Sekou Doumbouya (right leg soreness) are being listed as probable ahead of Wednesday's game against the Thunder.

John Henson has been seeing an increase in minutes lately which has affected both Maker and Doumbouya's floor time. Maker was playing great a few weeks ago, so he is worth keeping an eye on to see if he can pick his play back up.

Thon Maker (right ankle sprain) will not play on Sunday.

Maker had a brief productive run but has been trending down over his last few games, and the injury means he's only worth holding onto in 30-team leagues, and maybe not even then. John Henson will have tons of minutes on his plate if Christian Wood is also ruled out.

Thon Maker is questionable to face the Kings on Sunday with a right ankle sprain.

Maker has been on the downtrend prior to this injury, which pretty much is the nail in his fantasy-value coffin. He's a drop even in deep leagues.

  • John Henson
    PF, Detroit Pistons

John Henson started for the Pistons on Tuesday but was not able to put up a noteworthy performance with just four points (2-of-4 shooting), seven rebounds, one assist and one block in 22 minutes.

Henson had been making some noise off the bench prior to this quiet night, so it's understandably a bit disappointing. Expect the Pistons to do a bit more tinkering as the season draws to a close. Thon Maker moved to the bench and suffered a big loss in value with just two points, three rebounds and one steal in six minutes.

  • Christian Wood
    PF, Detroit Pistons

Christian Wood scored 18 points to go along with 11 rebounds in 27 minutes to lead the Pistons as they got routed by the Bucks on Thursday.

Wood picked up right where he left off going into the All-Star break and is going to be one of the biggest fantasy contributors on an otherwise disappointing roster. Thon Maker started in this game and played 18 minutes for his 11 points, six boards, three triples and two blocks. Maker could similarly be productive. He has been a good shot blocker and top-120 player since the Andre Drummond trade.

    C, Detroit Pistons

Thon Maker was impressive on Wednesday, logging 27 minutes in an OT loss to the Magic and posting 18 points (6-of-9 FG, 4-of-4 FT), two rebounds, two 3s, one assist, one steal and one block.

Maker has been pinging loudly on standard-league radars over his last few games. He's been a top-150 value over the last week and has been trending up. Give him a look if he's available in your league.

    C, Detroit Pistons

Thon Maker double-doubled for the Pistons in a loss to the Hornets on Monday, dropping 12 points (5-of-10 shooting), 12 rebounds, two blocks, one assist and one steal in 24 minutes.

Maker has been a solid producer since Andre Drummond was shipped off for a half-eaten sandwich and a bag of broken paper clips. Maker is primarily a blocks streamer in standard leagues, but is worth holding onto in deeper ones.

  • Markieff Morris
    PF, Detroit Pistons

Markieff Morris (flu) has been ruled out for Saturday's game against the Knicks.

Morris will miss his third straight game with an illness and fifth straight overall. We should continue to see a healthy dose of Christian Wood and Thon Maker. Newly acquired John Henson is also available for this game so he might be someone to monitor to see how he fits into the rotation.

Thon Maker finished Friday's loss to the Thunder with 19 points (7-for-12 shooting), seven rebounds, two triples, two assists and one steal.

With Markieff Morris continuing to miss time, Maker got another chance to start and fared far better than his last start. Don't expect him to log anywhere close to the 34 minutes he had tonight when the Pistons get their full complement of players back.
