Tom Thibodeau

  • Tom Thibodeau
    Team, Minnesota Timberwolves

Tom Thibodeau hopes to be a head coach again, but he likely wouldn’t go the assistant route which means he wouldn’t have ended up with the Lakers had they hired Tyronn Lue.

Thibodeau is 352-246 (.589) in the regular season and 24-32 (.429) in the playoffs while has three 50-win seasons and one 60-win season on his resume. His reputation though took a hit with the Wolves, in part because he struggled to relate to the franchise’s young stars such as Karl-Anthony Towns, and in part because there’s a sense the league has passed his trademark defense by and he has yet to adapt. Whether any of that is true or not, we’d need to see him back on the bench to know for sure, but for now he is still getting paid by the Wolves and there is no pressure to rush back to the bench.

The T-Wolves are trying to obtain another pick in the draft, specifically a first rounder, according to Darren Wolfson of KSTP.

This draft is loaded so even a high second round pick is appealing to many teams. There are no specifics on a deal yet, but the T-Wolves are definitely looking to add another young player to their roster by adding another draft pick. They do not have a lot of cap room, so adding these low money rookie deals would be perfect for their financial stability and future as an organization.

The Wolves made some postseason changes to their coaching and basketball operations staffs on Monday, releasing player development coach Vince Legarza, shooting coach Pete Patton and assistant video coordinator Wes Bohn.

Legarza worked extensively, particularly before games, with All-Star center Karl-Anthony Towns, Patton joined the team in 2016, while Bohn had been working for the team since 2014. It looks like Thibodeau is cleaning the house and he will likely be bringing over his people putting his signature even more in a franchise that reached the playoffs for the first time in 14 years.

  • Derrick Rose
    PG, Minnesota Timberwolves

Derrick Rose participated in shootaround and Tom Thibodeau said he might be available to play Thursday.

It’s refreshing to say Rose might play without an injury being involved. The Wolves signed Rose just this morning but the familiarity between Thibodeau and Rose could make the transition easy. This news is probably best for whichever Celtics guard gets the pleasure of being guarded by Rose. It’s best to let Rose prove himself and can be left on the waiver wire for now.
