Shams Charania of The Athletic is reporting former Cavs championship-winning coach Tyronn Lue has agreed to join the Clippers as their top assistant coach to Doc Rivers.

The Lakers and Clippers rivalry continues to heat up. Lue was very close to a deal with the Lakers in May to become their head coach, but the sides couldn’t reach an agreement. Lue now joins Kawhi Leonard as another person to spurn the Lakers this offseason.

Tyronn Lue is nearing a deal to become one of the top assistant coaches to Doc Rivers and the Los Angeles Clippers, according to Ohm Youngmisuk and Dave McMenamin of ESPN reports.

In the end, Lue found his way to LA after all. Following the Lakers' highly publicized failed courtship of Lue, he remained searching for other Head Coaching opprotunities. He had reportedly turned down assistant coach offers from both the Rockets and the Pelicans, but ultimately decided to rejoin his former boss Doc Rivers as a lead assistant to one of the league's best teams. This will add a fun wrinkle to the LA vs. LA battle that is brewing at the Staples Center.

The Rockets and the Pelicans have pursued former Cavs championship coach Tyronn Lue as a lead assistant but Lue’s focus remains on head coaching.

One of the top coaches available on the market, Lue has had a couple of assistant coaching offers since being fired by the Cavs in October of 2018 and rejecting the Lakers coaching job this offseason. The Rockets are working to add to their staff following the departures of assistant coaches Jeff Bzdelik, Mitch Vanya and Roy Rogers, player development assistant Irv Roland and video coordinator John Cho. Lue meanwhile has history working with Pelicans head coach Alvin Gentry and executive Vice President David Griffin as he was an assistant coach with Gentry on Doc Rivers’ staff with the Clippers, and he was Griffin’s head coach in Cleveland.

Report: Tyronn Lue and the Lakers failed to reach a contract with one another due in part to the length of the potential deal, according to Chris Haynes of Yahoo! Sports.

Haynes makes note in the article that the disagreements over who Lue would add to his coaching staff, the previously reported main reason for the rift between both sides, would have been able to have been overcome had he got an offer of a five year deal. Lue was reportedly dissatisfied with the three year deal he had been offered, especially considering that the coach who preceded him, Luke Walton, received a five year contract. Whatever the reason behind the impasse, the revolving door of stories concerning the Lakers’ ineptitude doesn’t seem to be coming to an end any time soon.

Tyronn Lue has decided to remove his name from the list of candidates the Lakers are considering for their new head coach.

The news broke earlier this afternoon that the Lakers and Lue had reached an impasse over the staff that Lue would surround himself with. The Lakers will continue to search for their new head coach and it appears as though Lue will no longer be in the running. However, with the news cycle that is the NBA these days, it would not be a surprise if Lue became a candidate again at some point in the near future.

ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported that Tyronn Lue is expected to be the Lakers new head coach but the team has yet to make a formal offer.

The Lakers have considered several candidates but with Monty Williams signing in Phoenix and considering Lue’s previous success with LeBron James, it appears the Lakers feel Lue is the best option on the table. We’ll have an update when the Lakers make it official.

The Lakers have scheduled a second meeting with Tyronn Lue for Wednesday.

The Lakers are closing in on their search for a new head coach, and it seems that the two likeliest choices are Lue and Monty Williams. With the Suns also expressing interest in Williams for their head coach vacancy, the Lakers have some incentive to move quickly with their decision.

According to Chris Haynes, the Lakers reached out to Tyronn Lue and will meet with him next week, regarding their head coaching vacancy.

Lue has been a name thrown around for the Lakers' next head coach since the beginning of this season, and for good reason. He's obviously coached LeBron James to a championship before and is a former Laker himself. The Lakers will likely take their time in finding their next head coach, but Lue is considered a strong option.

The Cavs are planning to fire Tyronn Lue and plan to promote Larry Drew to interim head coach.

The Cavs look much worse than expected this season, and Lue is definitely not the guy to squeeze the most out of this ugly roster. They've already dismissed assistant coach Damon Jones and plan to inform players of the full menu of changes at today's practice. It's not surprising that Lue is being dismissed, but it is a little bit of a shock that the Cavs decided to make the move six games in after sitting on this staff all offseason.

The Cavaliers are parting ways with Jim Boylan and Phil Handy, according to Brian Windhorst of ESPN.

Their contracts won’t be renewed and the Cavs will promote Dan Geriot and former sharpshooter Damon Jones to more prominent roles. The Cavs also lost bigs coach Vitaly Potapenko last week when he joined the Grizzlies. Maybe this is part of a shakeup to appease LeBron but it could also be the Cavs saving money.

Tyronn Lue said he intends to coach the Cavs next season even though he had a very tough season dealing with health issues.

Lue missed all or part of several games this season and even though he wasn't at 100 percent for the playoffs he fought through it for his team. The Cavs have reached the Finals with one championship in all three years that Lue has been the head coach and even though they ranked 29th in the league on the defensive end this season, LeBron James still carried them to 50 wins. Lue has three more years left on his contract and clearly he wants to return, whether LeBron James does not not, as there are only 30 of these jobs in the world.

Tyronn Lue is taking a leave of absence away from the team due to health concerns.

Lue has been having trouble sleeping and dealing with chest pains. The plan is for Lue to be on a one-week plan to address the concerns and return to the bench next week, but for now assistant head coach Larry Drew will serve as interim head coach in his absence. The coaching change should not influence the Cavs injury depleted rotation much, if at all. We wish Lue the best of luck in hopes of a speedy and healthy return.
