The Pistons improved, but not for fantasy owners

Damyean Dotson, who had right shoulder surgery, is unlikely to play in the preseason for the Knicks but should be available for the regular season.
Dotson scored 10.7 points per game as a reserve last season while making 36.8 percent of his three-pointers. The Knicks added Wayne Ellington in the offseason who could cut into Dotson's reserve minutes.

July 9, 2019, 5:35 pmJulius RandlePF, New York Knicks
The Knicks have officially announced the signings of Julius Randle, Wayne Ellington, Taj Gibson, Elfrid Payton and Bobby Portis on Tuesday.
Randle is expected to start at PF as the big-ticket free agent signing, while Payton will compete for a starting job and Portis should see a hefty dose of backup minutes at the four and five. Ellington had a strong finish with the Pistons and could compete for a starting wing job. Coach David Fizdale was pretty unpredictable with his rotations last year, but we can't imagine Taj Gibson taking too many minutes away from the trio of Portis, Randle and Mitchell Robinson.

Wayne Ellington will head to the Knicks on a two-year, $16 million pact.
The Knicks were said to be very interested in Ellington and ended up getting their man. He has a chance to start but with David Fizdale calling the shots his minutes could be very erratic. We've seen Ellington hold standard-league value in the past but the young Knicks figure to tilt the scales away from him over time, so his appeal might only exist as a 3-point streamer. The Knicks have used their vast cap space to add veterans and young, overpaid upside guys. At least they'll have some potential trade assets at the next two deadlines.

The Knicks are interested in Wayne Ellington and Taj Gibson, according to Ian Begley of SNY.
New York has cash to burn and will be looking to sign players to short-term contracts, according to earlier reports. Gibson and Ellington fit the bill as quality vets who can stay in their lanes, help the young guys learn and then be flipped for futures at the trade deadline, so the interest makes sense now that the Knicks haven't made good use of their vast cap space.

The Knicks have shown interest in George Hill and Wayne Ellington, per Ian Begley of SNY.
The Knicks are chasing the biggest names on the market but would like to flesh out the roster with affordable veterans either way. Hill will be waived by the Bucks rather than be paid $19 million, but Milwaukee has hopes to re-sign him on a more affordable deal. He'll be in demand as a lengthy veteran who can hit threes and defend, and the Knicks figure to have more to offer Hill in terms of salary. Ellington will be sought after as one of the free agent class's top 3-point shooters, and he figures to prioritize playing time, picking a fledgling Pistons team with limited guard depth last season after falling out of the rotation in Miami.

The wing position is the biggest area of need for the Pistons in the offseason and they will look at several options for help, including their No. 15 pick in the draft.
Wayne Ellington, who was signed midseason after a buyout, will be an unrestricted free agent. The Pistons will be limited in what they can offer, with just the non-taxpayer mid-level exception (about $9.2 million) and the biannual exception (about $3.6 million). It’s highly unlikely that they will be able to bid on the likes of Klay Thompson or Jimmy Butler, but they can take a swipe at some of the second and third tier options like Trevor Ariza, Danny Green, Marcus Morris, Rodney Hood, Terrence Ross, Garrett Temple and even Reggie Bullock.

Wayne Ellington was able to contribute 13 points on 4-of-9 shooting from the field and added five rebounds, two steals, a block and three 3-pointers on Saturday night.
Even with Blake Griffin back in the fold, there was only so much the Pistons could do against a team like the Bucks who have their identity this season. Ellington was reliable with his threes tonight but he could only do so much with how Milwaukee was getting any bucket they want.

Wayne Ellington was only able to contribute five points on 2-of-10 shooting from the field and added four rebounds and an assist on Sunday night.
Ellington was only able to hit one 3-pointer as well which is very indicative of the type of night the Pistons had as a team. Ellington will need to provide better contributions from beyond the arc in order to help the Pistons in Game 2.

Wayne Ellington his four treys in Wednesday's win over the Knicks en route to his 12 points on 4-of-9 shooting while adding one rebound, one assist and one steal to the box score.
Ellington ends the season as one of fantasy's more stable pickups with averages 15.4 points, 3.1 threes and 1.3 steals per game over the last two weeks of the season. Ellington thrived as a starter for the Pistons, filling the void of spot-up shooter left by the traded Reggie Bullock. He was boxed out of the Heat rotation prior to getting traded to Detroit but quickly turned around his season to finish outside of the top-150 as a 3-point specialist.

Wayne Ellington cooled right off on Friday night, going 3-of-12 from the field for eight points, four rebounds, three assists, a steal and two 3-pointers against the Thunder.
Ellington shot 9-for-16 on Wednesday night but this is just the normal ebb and flow of a shooting-only fantasy player. Keep him locked into lineups as the Pistons simply need his spacing, whether he's slumping or not. Langston Galloway fared marginally better than Ellington tonight with 11 points and a triple on 4-of-10 shooting, but he's not nearly as appealing for fantasy owners.

Wayne Ellington hit five threes on his way to scoring 24 points on 9-of-16 shooting in a rematch with the Pacers on Wednesday.
That makes 50 points in the last two games, both against the Pacers, for Ellington. He added four rebounds, two assists and a steal to round out his line. Ellington has been playing great ball lately with mid-round value over the past week and should be picked up for anyone who needs treys.

Wayne Ellington had a season-high 26 points on 10-of-19 shooting with four treys in Monday's loss to the Pacers.
With Luke Kennard and Blake Griffin out, Ellington took a season-high 19 shots. He's been up and down, but Ellington has been hitting almost four threes per game over his last four games. In case he's available, you're not going to find a better 3-point streamer.

Wayne Ellington led the way for the Pistons on Thursday with 25 points, hitting seven 3-pointers.
Ellington is the prototype of a 3-point specialist in all formats. The shot falls and he is a definite contributor as a scorer and a shooter. The three steals here were nice but it's obvious he's there for one reason: shoot the rock. His volume shooting should stay relevant the rest of the way.
Richaun Holmes is starting, Wayne Ellington is dropping bombs, and the Chicago Bulls have gone into maximum tank mode.
